OSI Steaks Score Gold Medals At World Steak Challenge

The fourth annual World Steak Challenge was conducted in London earlier this year. OSI Group competed in the event for the second time. The giant meat processing firm came away with 12 medals, including the Gold Medal for its Grain Fed Dry Aged Angus Ribeye.

OSI Group entered steaks from its facilities in Germany, Poland, Austria and the U.K. Kevin Cahill is managing director for OSI Europe. He said the astounding success of winning 12 medals for steak quality, taste and excellence demonstrates the OSI commitment to superior-value meats.

Furthermore, the OSI Poland plant received two gold medals for two different classifications of ribeye steak. OSI operates a state-of-the-art facility in Ostroda, Poland. This plant, incidentally, was also recently awarded the LEED Gold recognition for it exceptional environmental profile and the energy efficient and sustainable way it operates. Two silver medals were awarded for ribeyes produced in the OSI Group Austria facility. An array of medals in the silver and bronze categories were taken by a cadre of other OSI plants.

All steaks entered are judged on a criteria of internationally agreed upon standards. Features looked at are taste, marbling, appearance, aroma and consistency of fat trim. The judges are comprised of a panel of top chefs, food journalists, industry experts and food scientists.
