While some people think The Chainsmokers have been around for quite awhile they’ve actually only achieved mainstream success in the past two years. Their first hit was “Roses” which released in the first quarter of 2015. They’ve had a number of successful hits ever since. This DJ dance band is comprised of Drew Taggart and Alex Pall. Some of their hits are “Something Like This” (for which they partnered with Coldplay), And “Closer” (with Halsey). They have also won a Grammy with their hit song “Don’t Let Me Down”.
When a band like The Chainsmokers has a big string of success like they have there is pressure to keep churning out similar material. Their music is a mix of Top 40 pop along with EDM to this point. However, for their latest single they decided to break out and do something different despite this pressure. Their latest song is pretty dark which is actually appreciated by most of their fans. This latest song is called “Sick Boy” and it was released as a single in early 2018.
Alex Pall and Drew Taggart were recently interviewed just before they had a concert in New York City. They said that “Sick Boy” is marking a new chapter for their music. Drew Taggart said that they have grown quite a bit as artists in the past few years as well as people. He said that the tone of his generation is a bit dark right now and their music reflects that.
The Chainsmokers first live performance occurred in September 2014. They opened for Timeflies. Prior to that they had released their first single, “#Selfie”, for free. This song was picked up just a month later by Dim Mak Records who released the song a second time. “#Selfie” charted in countries around the world and proved to be their first breakout song. Alex Pall has said this song changed their lives and put them on the map in the world of music. They followed this song up with “Kanye” which was also a big early success for them.
