If you’re a fan of EDM an you will no doubt have heard of the Chainsmokers. The creative duo burst onto the music scene in 2014 with their hit “#Selfie.” The Group has been gaining traction ever since becoming a staple of the EDM-pop genre.
In 2016 the duo, consisting of members Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart released a song titled “Closer.” The track was highly anticipated as the Chainsmokers hadn’t released any recent music up to that point. The track was an instant radio regular gaining a feature from pop star Halsey.
The track also signaled a change in the duos musical direction. As DJ’s neither Andrew or Alex usually record vocal to their well crafted hypnotic beats. They usually rely on songwriters and vocalists for that element of their songs. However, Andrew is singing on their track “Closer.” The two hope to be recognized more as true artists in the near future. They want to be more than DJ’s that fans couldn’t pick out in a crowd with them standing behind a DJ booth.
Alex and Andrew met when their manager, who at the time was only managing Alex, introduced them. the two realized they would make a great team after realizing they shared the same fiery passion for creating music. The rest is history.
In a recent interview Alex Pall spoke about how he feels about the duo establishing their identity and how their music will most likely evolve. When asked why the duo have begun recording vocal to their tracks Alex replied “Well, why not?” But on a more serious note he explained that he and Andrew wanted to make the music more of a personalized experience. Though they work with songwriters they don’t just have them craft all the lyrics. They work closely with them, guiding the songwriting process and sometimes they write all the lyrics.
