‘Holy Smokes’ Hurricane Dean from Space
Posted on October 6th, 2008
The crewmembers aboard the space station took a short break Saturday to get a look at the storm from their vantage point. Even from space, the storm expected to reach the Gulf of Mexico Aug. 21 and gain strength as a potential Cat 5 storm, impresses the crew with its size.

October 6th, 2008 at 4:03 amBut isn’t it weird that despite that the money was there (maybe the mayor didn’t have funding, but your country can definatelly afford it) and the knowledge to protect New Orleans (we are the perfect example) nothing was done? This wasn’t just a natural disaster, it was one that could be prevented. But I guess like everywere else a disaster had to happen first, before action was taken.

October 6th, 2008 at 4:03 amI understand what you’re saying - But who would be held responsible. Say some hurricane expert puts together a presentation and walks in front of the Mayor and says “this could happen if we have a hurricane like this”. The mayor says we don’t have the funding to prepare for some “what if” clause. The storm comes and the city is destroyed. Even if that conversation ever took place noone is going to put blame on a person because of a natural catastrophe. It’d be wildly unfair.

U need to slow down ur concept of time buddy . That shows u its power , its so big , yet so slow u cant even see it moving . But think how much is moving under its wake . Impressive and beautiful =) -

October 6th, 2008 at 4:03 amI never understood why nobody had to answer for the New Orleans disaster. My country lies for the biggest part below sea level including it’s economical hart. Since 1953 we didn’t have any real floods and we won’t have them in the future because of our immense dikes and other systems to protect us. Why didn’t New Orleans have those?? Floods like that in Bangladesh I get, but in the US?

October 6th, 2008 at 4:03 amI don’t think anybody really realizes this. Katrina wasn’t an unbelievable storm as far as size, velocity and “dirty” side is concerned. The fact that New Orleans was under sea level and levies broke is what really made Katrina as destructive as it was.

October 6th, 2008 at 4:03 amfucking retard, from space you expect to see movement on earth? since they’re in space, their vision scale on earth is so high, movement can only be seen with insane patience, or fast forwarded with a camera. how come you didnt comment on the clouds moving, rather the hurricane? lol
