Amateur Radio PSK-31 (Receiving) Demonstration Presented by KI7F in Denver, Colorado
Posted on July 15th, 2010
I downloaded this ham radio related software program called trueTTY which offers several amateur radio digital modes including RTTY, Packet Radio and other modes including PSK-31 using Phase Shaft Keying with a baud rate of 31.25 and the transmitted band width is only 31 Hertz on HF. The audio from the receiver is fed into the computer sound card via mic or line input. (No TNC or Modem required.) PSK-31 works very well in crowded band conditions and works quite well, even at lower RF output power levels (50 watts or less depending on band conditions) and even simple dipole antennas work quite well. I live in an apartment and cannot install outdoor antennas, so, I am confined in using indoor wire receiving antennas to listen to the amateur radio HF bands. I currently do not have HF transmit capability for equipment except a Grundig Satellit 800 communication receiver (Same circuit design as the older discontinued RL Drake SW8 General coverage receiver, but, repackaged as a Grundig receiver.) and I currently use an indoor 16 foot long wire antenna inside my apartment connected to the Grundig radio. I do operate 2 meter FM locally using Denver repeater systems as well as simplex operation and some 2 meter packet radio using an indoor 1/2 wave J antenna built from 300 ohm flat Twin lead cable. You can read more about the PSK-31 digital mode at these websites. www.qsl.net aintel.bi.ehu.es Or just type in "PSK31" in the Google Seach Engine to find many more website related to ...

Todays People – Barry Goldwater K7UGA
Posted on July 1st, 2010
"Today's People" - The Back Story On This Video Back in the late 1980's some of us had an idea for a educational ham radio based celebrity interview series that we titled "Today's People." The concept was quite simple: A teenage host would visit the home of a noteworthy ham radio operator. The two would sit and chat while it was all captured on videotape. We already had a session scheduled to tape for AMSAT-NA with the late US Senator Barry Goldwater, K7UGA. Barry was to tell the story of the then upcoming Phase 3 satellite launch. So, we imposed on Senator Goldwater to also be ham radio operator interviewed for the "Today'd People" series promotional presentation. Hosting the show and conducting the interview was then 17 year old Kelly Howard, N6PNY. Kelly had previously co-hosted the ARRL promotional video "The New World of Amateur Radio" along with Nathan Pyle KB6PLH and the late Roy Neal, K6DUE. This first and only episode of "Today's People" was taped at Barry Goldwater's ranch in Scottsdale, AZ. in the fall of 1988 and released in February of 1989. The project was do low budget that it was edited on my kitchen table using a borrowed cuts-only Sony Betacam-based rental system. And candidly, by the standards of today the post production is a bit to basic in its technique. While this pilot of "Today's People" well received, it simply did not generate the interest level needed to obtain ongoing and sustaining funding, and the series concept got shelved. Earlier today I ...

Ham Radio Operator KI7F checks Into a Denver 2 mtr FM net
Posted on June 9th, 2010
I am Bill Wolverton and one of my hobbies is Amateur Radio (Ham Radio) and my FCC issued ham radio call sign is KI7F. I first became an amateur radio operator back in 1967 when I was still in high school.I had world wide global communications back in those days with out wires or the internet, just radio! This is a video of me Using my Icom 2000H 2 meter FM transceiver to check into the weekly 9 AM Sunday morning Colorado Repeater Association (CRA) 2 meter FM club net held on the Denver area 147.225 Mhz 2 meter FM repeater. In the video I was using my Icom IC-2000H 2 meter FM transceiver with an indoor 1/2 wave J vertical antenna and running about 5 watts on the low power setting. The larger radio seen on my desk is a Grundig Satellit 800 portable (Kind of big for a portable receiver!) that I use for shortwave radio broadcast listening (SWL'ing) and to monitor the different HF amateur radio bands. I have no HF transmitting capabilities at the moment. The camera used for this video was a Sony DSC-H2 digital still camera in MPEG video mode. This video was taken with a Sony DSC-H2 digital still camera in MPEG movie mode. My home web page is www.ki7f.com (Still under construction) and I have hundreds of photos posted at community.webshots.com and my MySpace page is at www.myspace.com and an SWL/Ham radio blog at ki7f2.blogspot.com
