Earthquake in Chile Terremoto en Chile

At 3:34 am local time, today, February 27th, a devastating magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck Chile, one of the strongest earthquakes ever recorded. According to Chile's interior minister, at least 214 people are now known to have been killed. The earthquake also triggered a Tsunami which is right now propagating across the Pacific Ocean, due to arrive in Hawaii in hours (around 11:00 am local time). The severity of the Tsunami is still not known, but alerts are being issued across the Pacific. As this is a breaking story, I will be adding more photos to this entry, as warranted, throughout the day. Want to give you an update on what we know about the earthquake that hit Chile about 10 hours ago just outside of Santiago and Concepcion. www.redcross.org For inquiries about relatives living and who have citizenship in Chile, please try to keep calling them, monitor their social networking profiles or contact other family members who live nearby. Telephone, internet and other communication lines are often disrupted in times of disaster. People trying to locate US citizens living or traveling in Chile should contact the US Department of State, Office of Overseas Citizens Services, at 1-888-407-4747 or 202-647-5225.

ShelterBox: Haiti Earthquake 2010

At the time of this video being shot, shelterbox has sent more than 8000 shelterboxes to Haiti after the earthquake on January 12. Each box contains emergency shelter provision and life saving supplies. In Haiti, shelterbox has been working with the French Red Cross, the US 82nd Airborne Division, IOM, ACTED, the Dutch military, local Rotarians, Scouts, MSF and Handicap International.
